by being all "WHEEEY PS3!", then I started doing it half seriously and realised that if I didn't stop I could very well become ONE OF THEM.
But yeah, this is why you shouldn't ever read the comments on a game review or anything.
Every time a game gets reviewed in the video games world people seem to think that if it's anyway half decent it deserves a 10 and a 4 if it's crap.
And almost every comments poster EVER seems to take great delight in bashing the others' console of choice. For example, take these selected comments on this piece:
http://www.gametrailers.com/news/goldeneye-wii-revealed/1498
"k the wii has nothing going for it, nothing good so they have to bring back an old game that was great, wii has disappointed me for years now and i regret ever buying this crap i haven't touched played it for months now and wondering why did i buy it and that i should probably sell it, and all I'm saying is if they screw this up and make golden eye bad there retarded and leave the good old games where they belong on the N64"
"GoldenEye sucked ass anyway...
WAAAAAAAY overrated. "
"Too bad the Wii sucks. "
"too bad the 360 sucks balls you stupid fanboy "
"too bad the ps3 beats both "
"too bad the ps3 has no games "
"too bad that your an idiot.MGS4, U2:AT and U:DF, KZ2, resistance 1 and 2, GT5, GOW3, MAG, heavy rain, RAC:TOD and RACF:CT, infamous, heavenly sword, motorstorm, ridge racer 7, and lots of other exclusives-plus i dont get why i got -24.i said the truh.ps3 beats both 360 and wii"
WHY?! It's a common trait amongst console gamers, they seem to in some bizarre, twisted way believe that they are in some way attributable to the consoles success and engineering. I just don't get it... When the truth is, quite obviously, that all formats have some games worth playing and some total garbage.
They're surely all American 11 year olds, right?

Personally I don't really see what's changed in the Xbox360/PS3 from the last generation. The screen shots I see from the games or stuff I see when they're being played still look like computer games. This photorealism Sony were promising back in 1999 or whenever they first announced the PS2 just never appeared.
and therefore like to participate on all sides of these arguments.
For instance:
Xbox Live is the best online service by a country mile
Wii is most fun for a group of drunks
PS3 is brillzo for media playback
Xbox has the best on demand marketplace
Wii is great for quick bursts of gaming
PS3's exclusive games (Uncharted 2, LBP etc.) are totally amazing
360's exclusive games (Halo, Forza etc.) are totally amazing
Wii's exclusive games (Mario, Zelda etc.) are totally amazing
etc. etc.
Bottom line is, what you said is totally right; each console is great in a unique way and there really is no dud console this generation, just different strokes for different blokes.
Some of those chumps are right though, the PS3 does suck because it doesn't have Gears 2. *SAFETY WINK*
Swings and roundabouts. See above.
All it does is demonstrate that XBox and PS3 owners are retards.
I didn't buy it so that I could blow up space monsters or run at people with chainsaws. I bought it so I could assume the role of a cuddly undersized animal and throw fruit at stuff. Alot of people seemingly don't get that.
That said, I now REEEEEALLY want an Xbox.
wuld yu daer pay money to play online ahahahahahahHAHAHA/.
you chump. Left 4 Dead 2 is out in a few weeks.
I already knew they were a total waste of time, apparently they also turn you into a bellend.
the PS2 has free online so that's cool.
360 is my favorite.
Do you have a RoboMaid?
"so screw you ya xbox bummin noobie i frak ya inta next week if i wasnt so balls deep into lego rock band ftw lol xxx"
Surely not?! You have to pay.
(Although PS3 Home is admittedly some kind of retarded joke, and the shop navigation seems to have been designed by a broken toaster)
the girlfriend is getting me one for Christmas. Some bastard sold an Elite and two controllers for £120 last week when I was on leave. The bastard knew I wanted one! I'm going to kill him.
on Gametrailers i think it was because they only gave Uncharted 9.4. mostly 'OMGZ you only gave it 9.4 when it deserves at least 9.6 why do you hate the PS3 so much?!!!' none of these people had even played the game yet as it wasnt even out.
It did deserve 9.6 tbh tho cos its amazing.
Even though he's slightly got the edge on me, what with having owned the last 3 COD games and playing online for 2+ years now...
But the ultimatum the lady has given me is that, quite fairly, having 4 consoles in the front room is excessive. So I may have to put the PS2 and unplayed copies of God Of War 2, Canis canem Edit and FF12 in the loft to do so, and this would pain me knowing Ico is not at hand whenever I so desire it...
and when people realise that they've bought the wrong one they become hyperdefensive rather than face the fact that they've just squandered all their money on a PS3.
it's fast, everything works like a dream (which is sadly not the case on the PS3) and you get great content too.
I don't regret a penny. All I'm missing now is an xbox but there isn't anything to justify getting one for since I don't do online gaming.
to both. Kinda. I split my tech between my room and the lounge.
with the possible exception of GOW2 and a few games you can only get on the XBLA.
is there an offline coop too? That might make it tempting. Forza is probably the only thing I'd want to get an xbox for at the moment and one game for a system? Nah.
How is playing video games any more a waste of time than watching television, reading a book or going to the cinema?
actualol! (don't tell theo)
offline is good fun actually. You can play Horde offline too with local peeps and it's really good fun.
"Pretty much every game for the Wii is turdbollocks, pal."
"Yeah, but Mario!!!"
xbox seems to sway most people in the UK under the perception that everyone else already has one, for fifa or whatnot. I mean someone other than me must have bought a ps3 right?!
In fact for the duration of the first playthrough it's probaboly the most fun I've ever had playing a videogame.
Think of the five coolest people you know. Do they still spend a lot of time on their playstations? No.
I don't read them all I just hit the reply bit. I'm a poon.
understandable.
is like fully saturated with funness. I mean a game couldn't possibly be more enjoyable really.
I always get lynched when I always say 'The Wii doesnt have 3rd party support to give a shit about' which it DOESNT, the have been like 2 games released on the wii from companies other than Nintendo that are worth your time, yet their first line is something like 'HOWZ CAN U NOTZ LIKE A CONZZZZZZZOLE THAT LETZ U PLAY CLASSIC MARIO' and I always SAY, I like the SNES thank you... then they get arsey
Okay last year I lived in a house where we had all 3 so lets run thew my personal opinion.
PS3 - Fantastic for multimedia, very quiet compared the sex box and recently has got a libary of games worth ones time. The online is so unstable though, but it has seen some improvment and its still overpriced. Also I dont like the menu layout, its beeing to up its own arse but thats a minor gripe.
Xbox360 - This is my personal console, its got relibility issues but seeing as this is my console experiance only I havent had ANY
issues at all with it. It runs great, but is very loud. The exclusives have dried up as of late and its medfia playback (which originally seems intiseing) is actually very limited, the live experiance in general is fantastic, I still havent got sky because they havent fixed it yet which sucks. But is my fav of the bunch and im still glad i baught one.
3) Wii, The wii was the best thing ever! The best thign I have ever used... for about 2 months... then it sort of stayed in the cupboard and then my other housemate whos wii this was found himself playing my xbox... so he got the xbox.
So we ended up with Xbox 2 - PS3 1 and Wii 0
Numbers dont lie!
(I like all 3 but the Wii needs to shape up)
that winning "the battle of the consoles" is also really important to them, they don't understand that sometimes in life there is no winning. Games kill brains.
Tru Games Az fiddy cent n fat joe bawlin in the background sheee nigga xbox aint got no gamez, the ps3 makez de bes gamez, ya know
Not many truly innovative titles really?
Even all my best Wii games are really just reinventions of past titles. I liked Mario Galaxy a lot, but I question whether or not the Wiimote actually improved it? The rest of the platforms titles are pretty much remakes, updated Gamecube titles or arcade games which are fun but which don't quite sustain a full title (eg. NMHeroes, HOTD:Overkill, Madworld). Mario Kart is good fun though, and I still have to play Zelda admittedly. Still, Wiiware is shaping up good for next year at long last and has had a few belters this year (Lost Winds, World of goo, Monkey Island etc).
I feel like the Xbox and PS3 too are guilty of just graphically updating old formulas as a rule. The only titles I've seen where I've thought 'I need this' are Uncharted 2, Mirror's Edge and Gears of War 2. As much as I loved the look of WipEout HD, even that was really just a revamped PS1 title when you boil it down.
I like FPS's a fair bit, but I also know that there'll always be a better one along within 6 months and are constantly improving, but have never provided that 'next leap' for me. I would love to play Modern Warfare 2 with all the boys at work, but in reality I don't think I could be bothered and online gaming doesn't have that 'fun' factor of 4 people sat in the same room...
and not Fallout 3?
Wipeout HD is probably the best value thing for the PS3, especially with the expansion, loads of modes, blisteringly fast.
What about LBP? Creating stuff in that is loaaads of fun and quite different to most other games.
Now there are so many BIG releases there can't be much of a gap in the market for new IPs unless they are marketing as following on from something else popular. Still, PSN and Xboxlive have a few few out there titles, I mean look at katamari and noby noby boy and pixeljunk eden.
Handheld games are certainly still innovative; scribblenauts for DS, patapon for PSP, ingenius and quite different games.
It was very, very good, but I spent the whole time just wandering around, reminding myself that RPG's are really hard work, involve lots of dialogue and stress me out as I get really paranoid as to what 'path' to take.
For example, I could tell after an hour on that game that loads of decisions I was making were changing the way the game played out. And that I'd have to likely play it for 5 months to see how that panned out, only to then have to do it all over to try a different route.
And than my brain exploded when all I wanted a nice free-running game that didn't involve lots of thinking and an innovative directional system built into the game.
it was too slow. and i wanted so badly to like it. :(
That looked good from the previews I saw.
Yeah it's true, most games are just a move on I guess. But I genuinely think that a few bigger titles I've played have been a step backwards gameplay wise. eg. MGS4 was worse than 3 IMHO, RE5 was worse than 4 (from the couple of hours I saw of it)...
And I agree. There are some interesting 'things' happening on DS, iPhone and Wiiware. Just a shame not many of them are fully fledged games.
granted that means it'll divide opinion and a lot of people will think it sucks, but it was pretty great and memorable on first playthrough. Probably have to wait a couple of years to play it again though.
I got RE4 for the wii and decided it was pretty boring and outdated, so I never tried 5. Cheesy survival horror is a pretty damn scripted genre and rarely is it actually scary (compared to being 9 and playing RE1 for the first time...argh fucking hell those dogs that come through the windows!!)
At least the iphone provides a platform for smaller developers and one-man-bands to get themselves heard and try new things.
you just have to play it in an imaginative frame of mind!
ps3 - great multimedia device, recently some stunning exclusives that show its real power, most multi-platform titles ported badly,
360 - best online but at a cost, stunning back catalogue but exclusives have dried up recently, multi-platform titles generally perform best on 360 due to difficulty in coding for ps3, RROD issues, great as a media centre
wii - fun for party games with mates, unique controls for pick up and play games, poor support from nintendo with regard to the non-casual gamers, perhaps too much focus on casual gamers, underpowered, looks awful on a hdtv
all have their strengths and weaknesses, if you are reaaally into games no excuse not to have a ps3 slim and 360, couple of years left in their lifecycles
